We've been getting lots of questions about Ruby, so I thought I would help you get to know the newest member of our family a little better.
This is Ruby, previously known as Joy.
We liked her old name, but she wasn't responding to it very well. We talked about changing it for a while, but struggled to find the perfect name for her. We noticed soon after meeting her, that she had red fur on the bottom of her paws. We came up with her new name, because her red fur, reminded us of Dorothy's ruby red shoes on the Wizard of Oz. As if ruby clicked her heels 3 times, saying the words, "There's no place like home." and poof, suddenly she was in our home, and apart of our family ;)
And the word ruby reminds us of a beautiful ruby gem. And that's what she is, a gem.

Ruby is a 2 1/2 year old Greyhound. She's a retired racer, although she didn't race much. She was in foster care for 9 months, before she found her way to us.
Joe and I had been casually talking about getting another dog. We went over different dog breeds, and the Greyhound came up. One day I was looking on the Internet at Greyhounds, and Petfinder.com, had a lot of greyhounds up for adoption. I looked at lots of pictures of available dogs.
Then, I clicked on Ruby's picture...and that was pretty much the end. My heart melted, and I felt an instant connection with her. Joe was sitting next to me, and so I showed him her picture. When he saw her, he smiled. Not just a normal smile, but a smile that said the words, "Yep, that's her!" I closed the laptop, went into the next room, and prayed to Heavenly Father. I prayed that if (Joy) was meant to come to our home, she would.
On October 27th (3 weeks later), she was here.
We've had her for a little over a week. Everyday, more and more of her personality comes out!
For the first couple days she was here, the dogs had to figure out the "pack" dynamics, which was a little stressful. Kisses would snap at Ruby, when she would try to get attention from us, and when she would try to eat. It was hard for me. I had never seen that side of Kisses, and I was worried we weren't going to be one big happy family. After reading a lot about dog packs, and bringing new dogs into a pack, I learned it was perfectly normal. Within a couple days, everything was just the way I wanted it, with everybody happy, and getting along.
Ruby is a wonderful dog!
Here are a few things we've learned about her:
~She is very goofy. Very goofy!
~She loves to play with the dogs. Her and Thumbalina are a riot together!
~She loves to cuddle with you, especially Joe. She's turning into a Daddy's girl. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, He has treats in his pocket. I know it, and I'm going to catch him!
~ She likes to toss clothes up in the air. She doesn't chew on them, she just walks into the closet, picks up an article of clothing, tosses it up in the air, and walks away. LOL!
~She likes to sleep...a lot!
~She fits right in! Her 1st night here, Joe and I were amazed at how natural it felt. Like she was always meant to be apart of our family.
~ She loves going an walks.
~She rubs up against you like a cat. It makes me feel like she's giving me a hug.
~She is very gentle. Even when she licks you, she's very gentle, and you barely even know she's doing it.
~She's house trained! I can't tell you how nice it's been to not have to worry about house training a dog!
~Her two favorite spots in the house, are in front of the fireplace, and her bed.
~She's large, yet small at the same time.
~ She LOVES her toys. She likes to play with them, but the funny thing is that she mostly just carries them around with her.
~She is very sweet.

We love her, and we are so happy to have her!

We had no idea that that's what her name meant, when we named her. Joe Named her after his favorite soda, as a joke to get back at me for naming Thumbalina, Thumbalina.
